Jim McCabe's front 9 musings . . .

1 – Can’t ignore frost

So at about 8:37 a.m. the request was made for a task that would have required my presence outside. I merely told her the truth: I’m on a frost delay. Pretty certain I didn’t deserve the look she gave me.

2 – G’day, mate

Aussie Open. At Kingston Heath. Live TV in the 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. window when you've got nothing else to do. Good gracious, we’ve got ourselves a major.

3 – It’s 58, not 59

Hey, 58 is the score to match or beat. Stop pounding us with stories on those shooting 59. Unless it’s a fourth-round 59 that wins, leave it be.

4 – Prime time for him

Patrick Reed playing in lift, clean and place conditions? The possibilities are endless.

5 – Lacking quality numbers

Michelle Wie and Lexi Thompson combine for just 16 LPGA Tour wins and two majors. Hmmm. Under-achievers, perhaps? Lydia Ko, 27, meanwhile, has 22 LPGA wins and three majors, and is a Hall of Famer.

6 – What’s with that?

What remains a total mystery to me is putting on a winter coat but leaving it unzippered. Akin to putting on the heater in the car, then opening the windows.

7 – Sad, but true

Have we reached the point where Tiger Woods shouldn’t announce he isn’t going to play? That’s expected. The news is you are going to play.

8 – He’s not a follow

Here’s hoping LeBron doesn’t get offended, but when he said he said he was leaving social media I thought to myself, "I didn't know he was on social media." He must not opine about golf.

9 – ‘Tis all about the gale

Remember, laddies and lassies, at 40 degrees and zero wind, it’s playable. At 45-50 degrees with 15 m.p.h. wind you stay home.
