Jim McCabe's front 9 musings . . .

1 – Breaking news

The answer is: Yes. The question is: Can you play a permanent fade to a temporary green?

2 – It gets confusing

It’s very difficult to work on swing changes when you consider how many different swings you own.

3 – Net decision: The tree stays put

Moving the Christmas tree to the dining room wasn’t an option. Or so came the resounding decision. Apparently taking advantage of the very high ceiling in the family room for an indoor golf net was termed a ludicrous idea.

4 – On the surface, it’s curious

Ludvig Åberg has two wins in 14 pro starts with caddie Jack Clarke. But he’s decided to switch caddies, opting for veteran Joey Skovron, who got his second win with Rickie Fowler in their 137th tournament. This is not commentary, folks; it’s just facts.

5 – More breaking news

The answer is: The E-club. The question is: What do you get the golfer who seemingly has everything?

6 – Closets will be filled with team clothing

Circling back to Skovron. In 2025, he could possibly add to his wide array of team golf apparel. He caddied in Ryder and Presidents Cups with Fowler, worked the 2022 Presidents Cup with Tom Kim, and presumably can circle the 2025 Ryder Cup for Team Europe.

7 – Simply great viewing

You can waste your time with these silly one-club challenges that are considered cool and hip – or you can dig into the archives and watch bona fide maestros dazzle with soft hands and imagination. Seve Ballesteros and Lee Trevino taking on Nick Faldo and Isao Aoki, all playing just a 5-iron at the Old Course in 1984, is pure magic, and you can watch it. Classic stuff.

8 – Man, he doesn’t lie; he checks it twice

The list to Santa included a request for a 9-wood. He edited the letter and returned it. “Listen, you got a 7-wood last year. The 9-wood seems to be adding a lot of loft and masking your fear of the irons or hybrids. What’s next, an 11-wood?”

9 – Help wanted

What’s with the Cleeks? Surely, Martin Kaymer and Richard Bland can’t be a two-man team in 2024, can they?
