Jim McCabe's front 9 musings . . .

1 – Golden opportunity squandered

I’m telling you, when Atlanta built a comfortable lead in that huge TGL finale, the other team – whoever they were -- should have rolled out Tom Brady for the second half. Arthur Blank and Atlanta would have melted. Huge miss for TGL organizers.

2 – Insight, humor, perspective

Viktor Hovland is a treasure.

3 – Who?

On the other hand, has anyone ever been heard to utter, “Man, I miss Jason Kokrak.”

4 – Content creators lack creativity

Further proof that our world has lost its fast ball: When content creators take part in a pro-celebrity event before a LIV Golf tournament later this week, two of them – Robby (Bobby Fairways) Berger and Joey (Joey Cold Cuts) Demare – will do commentating duties from the course. Bobby Fairways? Joey Cold Cuts? Can’t hold a candle to the days when only made-men got the creative nicknames. You know, like Johnny Sausage, Louis Bagels, and Tony Ducks, for instance.

5 – Look toward the other end

Slow play is an issue, no question. But to keep harping on how slowly the contenders play seems foolhardy. You can expect them to take longer because they’re playing for huge prizes. It’s the dawdlers and the draggers who are taking nearly 5 hours to nail down a T-51st finish that crush your spirits.

6 – Perspective, my friends

When it’s 52 degrees, it’s too cold for baseball’s Opening Day. When it’s 47 degrees, it’s downright balmy for your golf club’s Opening Day.

7 – Covered his bases

Friend of mine told me he gave up three-putting for Lent. Seemed immensely challenging, so I asked him how he was doing. “Well, to make it easier, I just stopped playing golf till Easter.”

8 – Starting points

Two tees (wooden, of course) in front right pocket along with ball-marker and divot repair tool kit, two golf balls in back right pocket, and scorecard in back left pocket. You’re ready to go.

9 – The final touch

Oh, and the phone most definitely is either off or in silent mode, buried deep in your golf bag. Converse with your partners, not your followers.
