Jim McCabe's front 9 musings

1 – You do the math

There’s no way Bryson DeChambeau said he was only at “90 percent” when he withdrew from this week’s tournament. He was definitely misquoted. Had it been “I’m at the square root of 7,569” I’d know it was him (and he’d be at 87 percent).

2 – Here for the long haul

I’m not so much worried about great golf courses becoming obsolete. More unnerving is that golf curmudgeons won’t either.

3 – Welcome to Florida

The border sign at the Sunshine State should read “Entering Florida. Dogleg right, water left.”

4 – Not the retiring type

As for what is the best part about the PGA Tour reaching the Florida swing, say hello to Roger Maltbie.

5 – You have to do it

Has anyone ever hit balls at a driving range and not taken aim at the poor driver in the cart? Methinks no.

6 – Perhaps in knickers, too?

Playing a few holes with hickory is on my bucket list.

7 – Stick to your Nassaus

For a sport that is so closely identified with on-course betting, golf remains a non-starter when it comes to legalized gambling. And for good reason; it’s illogical.

8 – Big upside

If you’re selling stock on young golfers and each investor can make just one purchase, I’m buying Scottie Scheffler.

9 – It’s the little things

When constructed properly, stairs on those dastardly deep bunkers are much appreciated.
